Space Segment Spectrum License Application

Access to radio spectrum in Canada is regulated by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). The submission and publication of the MARMOTSat API has opened the door to the next step in gaining access to spectrum, which is the procurement of a space segment spectrum license for the space segment of MARMOTSat, following ISED’s CPC-2-6-02 regulatory process. An application under this was submitted for MARMOTSat using Spectrum Management System, ISED’s online tool for this purpose, on October 1, 2025. This license is expected to be evaluated by February 4, 2026, resulting in MARMOTSat becoming an authorized and approved Canadian satellite, which is a pre-requisite of the next step in the mission’s regulatory plan: ground station licensing. We would like to extend our gratitude to the ISED team in Ottawa for supporting our application, and we are excited about the completion of this important milestone towards launch in June 2026.
